1 What is Blueleo?
Blueleo is a website that gives parents the tools they need to organize their busy lives; stay in touch with their friends in a shared and intimate environment; and navigate the wide variety of kids' and parents' resources in their neighborhoods.
2 How can I make friends on Blueleo?
There are two ways you can make friends on Blueleo:
- By Using the "Search Users" Box: Enter a friend's name in the search box located in the navigation menu of your Home Page. Once you find your friend, click on the "Send Friend Request" icon. Your "friend request" will show up on your friend's Home Page, and once he or she accepts your request, you will get a notice on your Home Page saying that your friend has accepted your request. Your "new" Blueleo friend will now appear in your list of Blueleo friends.
- By Using the "Invite Friends" Icon: Click on the "Invite Friends" icon located in the application menu of your Home Page. The first step here will help you find friends from your webmail addressbook who are already using Blueleo. Currently we are only supporting Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. Once you input your webmail username and password, you will see a list of your friends who are already using Blueleo. You can send friend requests to the contacts you have selected from this list.
3 How can I invite friends to join Blueleo?
Inviting friends to join Blueleo is easy. Just click on the "Invite Friends" icon located in the application menu of your Home Page. The first step will ask you for your webmail username and password and then show you a list of your webmail contacts who are already using Blueleo. You can send friend requests to the contacts you have selected from this list. Currently we are only supporting Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. The second step will let you send invitations to your web contacts who are not on Blueleo. Finally the third step will let you send invitations to your friends who are neither on Blueleo nor in your webmail addressbook. Of course you don't have to go through all the steps. Just hit Skip to go to the step you'd like.
4 What can I do on Blueleo?
Here are some of the things you can do on Blueleo:
- Use a Smart Calendar that automatically updates with each event you set up on Blueleo
- Send Customized and Themed Event Invitations to your friends and keep track of RSVPs
- RSVP to Your Friends' Events. When you get invited to a friend's birthday party or event, the event invitation will first show up on your Blueleo Home Page, telling you whether you are free or busy at that time. If you accept the invitation, the Event details will be stored in your Blueleo Calendar and in Your Friends' Events Page.
- Schedule Playdates & Dates without the need to enter each date manually on your calendar.
- Keep Track of all your Events and Event Details in one location
- Search for Local Resources from a database of over 4,000 New York City venues in the areas of Classes for Children & Teens, Special Needs Classes, Mommy Classes & Support Groups, Public & Private Schools, Tutors, Birthday Party Venues, Birthday Party Entertainers, Birthday Cake Shops, Pediatricians, Childcare Agencies, Donating & Volunteering Opportunities, Camps for Children & Teens, Baby & Kids' Stores and Kid Friendly Restaurants. You can filter your search by category, theme and location.
- Review Resources & Become a Fan of the ones you like so that other Blueleo members and your friends can benefit from your knowledge of these venues.
- Post a Listing for buying, selling, trading or donating items such as Baby & Kid Products, Clothing, Furniture, Strollers, Games, Toys, Books, DVDs, etc; and finding services and resources such as Babysitters, Nannies, Babynurses, Tutors, Housecleaners, Real Estate, etc.
- Send News Alerts to your friends when you need to alert them to something that is important to you or when you need their advice -- for example, when you are looking for a pediatrician in your neighborhood, want to recommend a babysitter to your friends or need to remind them of an upcoming event.
- Post Updates about yourself on your Blueleo Home Page, telling your friends what you're doing, where you are, what you are thinking, etc.
- Create a Profile that tells your friends more about yourself.
- Keep Track of all of the above on your Blueleo Home Page which contains your Blueleo Calendar, Blueleo Profile, Updates, Event Invitations, News Alerts, Friend Requests, Blueleo Friends, Upcoming Events, Blueleo Listings, Favorite Blueleo Resources, and short cuts to all Blueleo tools.
5 What is so special about My Blueleo Calendar?
Your Blueleo is a Smart Calendar. What that means is that everytime you make a date or a playdate with your friends on Blueleo; or send them birthday or event invitations, you don't have to enter every single event manually in your calendar. Blueleo automatically does that for you. Your Blueleo Calendar also stores all event details when you RSVP to your friends's events. And if you like, you can change your RSVP status directly from your Blueleo calendar.
You can customize your Blueleo Calendar for your family by adding color-coded tabs for each family member. This way, you can view and use either one, multiple or all calendars at once. Your Blueleo Calendar also shows all of your family's upcoming events in a summary pane to remind you of your upcoming appointments and events.
6 Can I keep an individual calendar for each family member?
Yes. When you first open your Blueleo Calendar, you can only see one tab, My Calendar, but you can easily add other tabs to it. This way, you can view and use either one, multiple or all calendars at once.
7 Who can see my Blueleo Calendar?
No one, but you can see your Blueleo Calendar. Your Calendar is completely private and Blueleo does not currently have a feature that allows you to share your Calendar with others on Blueleo.
8 Can can I share my Calendar with my friends on Blueleo Calendar?
Blueleo does not currently have a feature that allows you to share your Calendar with others on Blueleo.
9 You keep talking about setting up "Events" on Blueleo. How does that work?
There are four types of "events" you can create on Blueleo: birthdays; events; playdates; and dates. If you are planning an event such as a birthday party, a baby shower, a school benefit, etc., you can send customized and themed invitations to your friends from Blueleo. Your friends don't have to be Blueleo members to receive and RSVP to your invitation. Once you send a Blueleo event invitation, your calendar stores all the relevant event information, so that you don't have to manually enter it yourself. Blueleo also keeps track of your friends' RSVPs and their messages on a page dedicated to your Event.
Alternatively, when you get invited to a friend's birthday party or event, your Blueleo invitation will first show up on your Blueleo Home Page, telling you whether you are free or busy at that time. If you accept the invitation or RSVP "Maybe", the Event will go into your Blueleo calendar. Regardless of your RSVP status, you will have access to the Event Detail Page that stores all event information. You can change your RSVP status and RSVP message at any time from this page.
Playdates and dates are quick events that you set up with your parent friends. You don't have an option to select themed invitations for these types of Blueleo Events, because dates and playdates are casual and frequent events. Apart from this, playdates and dates work the same way as birthdays and events.
10 Can I send Blueleo Event Invitations to my friends who are not on Blueleo?
Absolutely. You can send Blueleo Event Invitations to your friends who are not on Blueleo by typing their email addresses manually in the "Create Event" forms. Once your friends receive your invitation, they can click on the Reply link and access the Event Detail Page for your event. Your friends can RSVP and post a message from this page. However, your friends who are not Blueleo members will not have access to other parts of Blueleo.
11 I just registered on Blueleo and I see nothing on my Blueleo Home Page other than my Blueleo Profile. Why is that?
Your Blueleo Home Page will fill in with information as you use Blueleo. Here are some quick things you can do to get started:
- Start by searching for your friends on Blueleo and sending them friend requests. If you don't see any of your friends on Blueleo, invite them to join so you can enjoy Blueleo with your friends.
- Your Blueleo Calendar already stores all Blueleo events automatically for you. Therefore, make your Blueleo Calendar your main calendar where you keep all your family's events and appointments. Create individual tabs for your family members and start filling them in. Notice that a summary list of your Upcoming Events will appear on your Home Page once you use your Calendar.
- Post a quick Update on your Blueleo Home Page, telling your friends what you're doing, where you are, what you like or what you are thinking.
- If you are planning an event, send your friends a Blueleo Event Invitation that is custom designed for each event type. Keep track of your friends' RSVPs and messages on your own Event Page.
- Schedule a date or a playdate with a friend without having to enter the details in your calendar.
- Look for local New York City resources for you and your child. You can filter each resource topic by category, theme and neighborhood.
- While you are searching for a resource, write a review for the venues you already have experience with so that other Blueleo members can benefit from your knowledge of these venues.
- Become a "Fan" of a resource as a way of sharing with your friends how much you like a specific venue. A summary list of your favorite resources will appear on your Home Page for your friends to view. Don't worry, you can stop being a fan of a resource whenever you'd like.
- If you are looking to buy, sell or donate an item or are looking for a resource, post a listing on Blueleo Listings in the category and neighborhood of your choice. Again, a summary of all your listings and the listings you have replied to will appear on your Home Page.
- If you need to alert your friends to something that is important to you or you need their advice, send your friend(s) a News Alert.
- If you haven't created your Profile information during registration, start filling it in now to tell your friends more about yourself.
